Women’s March: Power to the Polls Chicago 2018|Why I March

On the Saturday of January 21st of 2017 a revolution began, known as the Women’s March. This women/feminist revolution specifically occurred the day that Donald Trump was inaugurated into office as the new president. Women activists decided to take a stand against Trump’s misogynist, racist, homophobic, egoistic, inequality evil agenda by marching throughout the country and protesting in numerous cities about the upcoming four years.

Now it is January 20th, 2018, a year after Trump has become inaugurated as president and many are here marching against Trump and his administration, fighting for human rights that have been impacted within this past year. I was given the opportunity to march with my fellow people against Trump’s agenda and his administration. I marched to the polls on January 20th, 2018 in my beautiful home city of Chicago. As an intersectional feminist it was a remarkable experience that I will never forget. Personally to me what’s real amazing is how over 300,000 people came out to the Women’s March in Chicago to protest, march, and unite.

Yesterday I marched for the inequalities that women, people of color, immigrants/refugees, the lgbtq+ community, the disabled, and the less fortunate face in today’s society. I also march for sexual assault survivors, for those that have been separated and deported from their families, for the earth, and those who have lost their life in 2017 from Trump’s America. I march to say that these marginalized groups are important and that they matter. Become an intersectional feminist, be an activist, be someone who protests what you want to change, and lastly vote because your vote matters. Remember that we can, we have, and we will demand change. The future is female and 2018 will be the year we come back!

“Change only happens when ordinary people get involved, get engaged, and come together to Demand It.”  – Barack Obama

Good Deed Journal for 2018

A guide to a positive year through a Good deed Journal for a month.

  1. Smile at everyone for a whole day, even if they’re strangers. A smile to someone might help brighten their day and also yours.
  2. Give a stranger a compliment. Make someone’s day with a flattering remark.
  3. Pay for the person behind you. A simple deed that includes purchasing a meal or drink for a random person will give them a pleasant surprise.
  4. Leave a kind note on someone’s car, locker, or desk. You never know what kind of day the person may be having.
  5. Donate to the homeless. Whether you donate food, clothes, or money, just donate. It’s very important to be thankful for all the things you have in your life but also to give to those who don’t have the same as you do.
  6. Thank someone who means alot to you. Appreciation goes a long way and that person may just need to feel like that their existence is appreciated.
  7. Think positively all day; you’ll notice how those thoughts reflect on your mood and others in a favorable manner.
  8. Volunteer to help those in need. Pick a place and set a goal to give your time and assistance to them. It can be at a homeless shelter, dog shelter, or retirement home, for example.
  9. Write a note or letter to someone – it – can be someone you know or a complete stranger – and leave it somewhere public where they are most likely to see it. For example, leave it on a car, inside a book, or on a desk.
  10. Speak to someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Ask them how they’ve been and tell them how much you miss them; you may just rekindle your friendship with them again.
  11. Help someone out with something. If you see anyone struggling with anything then give them a hand, for example: placing heavy items into their car from the store.
  12. Share the thing you love most with the people around you. They can be people you don’t talk to or friends and family members.
  13. Surprise a loved one with a favorite thing of theirs. This can unexpectedly make his or her day feel special.
  14. Give someone a kind, motivational message that is heartfelt. People sometimes just need to be reminded that there is always hope.
  15. Support someone who you think is in need of some help. Ask them what you can do to make things better.
  16. Hold the door open for someone even if you’re in a rush or have your hands full. The person will be thankful.
  17. Believe in something; it can be believing in your God, in ambition, or in something great.
  18. Appreciate everything that by showing gratitude to all that you’re thankful for.
  19. Have faith in whatever it is that’s worrying you. Everything will be okay and turn out just fine.
  20. Trust your friends, family members, coaches, teachers, spouse, etc. Just trust that they will support, believe, and be honest with you.
  21. Empathize with those that are struggling and feel overwhelmed. Let them know that what they are dealing with is just temporary.
  22. Love someone and let them know that they are loved and worthy.
  23. Seek the things in life that make you feel joyful for being here. Everything around you will radiate positive vibes in your life.
  24. Do the spectacular greatness that you were destined to do. Go find it and achieve your capabilities.
  25. Dream beyond the limits; everyone has the potential to succeed and achieve their dreams. Keep working hard and believing in what you do.
  26. Enlighten someone by giving them an understanding of what their life should consist of for a happy lifestyle.
  27. Open up to someone on all that your mind is filled with. Have them do the same with you and you both will notice how amazing it feels to let go.
  28. Respect all types of people. This may seem like something that should be done everyday but the truth is that it’s not and people sometimes forget that everyone’s human.
  29. Change the things you want to change. You deserve to be heard and sometimes we just need to remind ourselves that we have the power to change the things
  30. Hope for greatness in this world. Although there are hard times in life, there is and always will be hope to hold on to.
  31. Be the best version of yourself. Reach all that you can. Believe in what you truly think. Love what you do. And hope for the change you’re looking for in life.

much love, Ariana.

Must Watch Netflix Shows | Winter 2018

Well it’s winter and we all know that whenever it’s winter we would rather stay in and watch some tv shows rather than going out to the gym (whelp, there goes New Year resolutions) haha! However for those of us that enjoy the company of a good show and a satisfying snack, you have come to the right place.

Throughout this article I will share with you my Must-watch favorite tv shows that are perfect to binge on! Now while we all have different tastes, hopefully there is a show that you will be interested in watching, if not maybe venture out! Grab some popcorn and enjoy this post!

For the Comical watchers: Portlandia (IFC)

This show is just an 11/10, I have no idea where to begin. Okay so this series is not your average show, but your average joe, (see what I did there). Portlandia is a show that primarily consists of two actors: Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein who happen to not only play themselves in the show, but also numerous of other diverse characters, in the City of Portland. The episodes are almost like vignettes, focusing on several characters throughout one episode, since most series are not like this, I find it quite more amusing. The average show is usually about twenty-two minutes, just enough time to get that laugh in for the day. Lastly, I will say the first two episodes are slightly odd, but once it’s done with,  prepare for the hysterical laughs. My favorite characters would have to be Candace and Toni, they made me laugh the most!

For the Empowering Women: GLOW (Netflix Original)

Glow or as its called Gorgeous. Ladies. Of. Wrestling, is a Netflix original that takes place in the 1980’s, where women are eager to start their career of acting. It starts off as a lame gig that many think will fail, but as these ladies go through their “Glow-up”, they rise to the star of success. Glow is a must see for women strength and empowerment.

For those that like a Creepy Fright: American Horror Story (FX)

Whenever I’m in a mood for a spook I will watch AHS and become addicted. Some viewers might say that there’s nothing frightening about AHS, however everyone’s tolerance is nonetheless differing. Whether or not your you think it the show is eerie, you cannot deny that the show itself is entertaining and will keep you watching. Every season consists of a new plot. Personally I would argue that season 1: Murder House, season 2: Asylum, season 3: Coven, and season 6: Cult, are the most entertaining and most frightful was probably Asylum!

For those that enjoy a Rom-Com-Drama Telenovela: Jane the Virgin (CW)

Gina Rodriguez plays Jane Villanueva a young twenty-year old girl, who is a journalist and happens to become a pregnant virgin. This show is just about everything you could want to watch in a tv series. It contains juicy drama, the romantic love triangle, and the humorousness. Jane is that girl in Miami, living with her mother, Xiomara and her abuela, Alba. To see Jane’s journey of her new life, check it out on Netflix!

For the Adventurer Goers: The End of the F***ing World (Netflix Original)

James and Alyssa are both tired of their uneventful lives in their small town in England. The two both decide to run away from home and go on a road trip. Throughout the trip the encounter some problems that lead them to become some of England’s most wanted! The two cannot deny their romance for one another as it strengthens throughout their excursion. This show is a short series of eight twenty-minute episodes, that can only be watched on Netflix.

For the Blatant Viewers: Shameless (U.S. Version on Showtime)

Viewer Discretion Advised: For anyone who would consider themselves shameless in any way, well then you found the right show for you. Just as a warning I would not recommend watching if you are under the age sixteen as there is explicit content all throughout the show. The show consists of a dysfunctional family of seven who live on the South side of Chicago trying to get by, all going through their own personal struggles. There really is no other way to describe this show other than well, shameless. Personally one of my top favorites because it includes a little bit of every genre.

I really hope that you enjoyed this guide on what to binge watch on Netflix this season. These are all of my personal favorites and although I have so much more, I had to limit my choices. Whether or not you may be interested in one of these shows, I would recommend trying to watch any one of these series. Let me know down below if you decide to watch one of these tv series or comment your favorite show! As always please like if you enjoyed.

 Much love, Ariana.
