Happy International Women’s Day, everyone! This is for sure one of my favorite days of the year. March 8th is known as International Women’s Day, celebrating all types of women all around the world, their contributions/progress in society, and the fight for women’s rights and equality. This year’s theme for IWD is “Press for Progress”, a demand for change this year. With movements such as #TimesUp and #Metoo, women are seeking to make a progressive change in society, by receiving justice for assault survivors in the music and film industry, electing more women into office, and having women realize their ambitions. The Women’s March Association, theme for this year is “marching to the polls”, having women run for office whether it’s federal, state, or local. Encouraging women that we have power to seek change and lead.
International Women’s Day to me means; empowering woman and supporting one another, celebrating the actions and contributions that women have made to our society, and to continue fighting for equality and women’s rights. On a more personal note, I want to honor the amazing women in my life that have impacted me, my mother, my therapist, and my aunt, who have all made into the person I am today.
Although we’ve had progress made for marginalized groups, there is still a long way to go, that being said, change will happen, although it is up to us to demand it and go out to achieve it, always remember that “The Future is Female”, The Future is Inclusive”, and “The Future is Change”.
